How to List Your Goalie Equipment So It Sells Fast

Used goalie gear doesn't sell like regular hockey equipment. Buyers are pickier, sizing is different across brands, and a vague listing ("goalie pads for sale, good condition") gets scrolled past in seconds. Here's how to write a listing that actually converts browsers into buyers.
- Lead With the Details Buyers Are Actually Searching For: The first line of your listing should answer the three questions every goalie asks before they even click: type, brand, and size. Weak title: "Selling my old goalie pads, barely used, great deal." Strong title: "Bauer GSX 35+1 Leg Pads"
If you're selling gloves or a blocker, always state catch hand (left or right) in the first line — it's one of the first filters buyers use, and gear gets passed over constantly simply because the hand wasn't listed anywhere.
- Use a Consistent Condition Scale — Don't Just Say "Good Condition" "Good condition" means something different to every seller, and vague condition language is one of the biggest reasons buyers hesitate or lowball. Instead, be specific about what you mean: Like new — used a handful of times, no visible wear Good — a full season or two of regular use, normal wear, fully functional Fair — multiple seasons, visible wear (breakdown on pads, worn padding on a mask), still game-ready Needs work — functional but needs a repair, re-lace, or part replacement before use Say why it's in that condition ("used for one 20-game beer league season, stored in a dry bag") — context builds trust faster than adjectives alone.
- Photos: This Is Where Most Listings Lose Buyers A blurry photo of pads lying on a garage floor is the single fastest way to get your listing ignored, no matter how good the actual gear is. A few rules that make a real difference: Shoot in natural light. Near a window or outdoors, never under a dim garage bulb — colors and wear are nearly impossible to judge in bad lighting.
- Get 5-6 angles minimum: front, back, both sides, and close-ups of anything with visible wear. For pads specifically, show the knee stacks and boot flex area — that's where breakdown shows first and where experienced buyers look first. Don't hide the flaws — photograph them. A clear photo of a small flaw with an honest caption ("minor scuff on the toe bridge, doesn't affect function") builds more trust than a listing that looks suspiciously flawless, and it cuts down on the "is this actually in the condition you said" messages that slow everything down. Show it on a stand or clear flooring, — it's much easier for a buyer to judge fit and shape, and increases the perceived value of the item when its by itself.
- Write the Description Like You're Answering the Questions You'd Actually Get Asked Think about what you'd want to know buying this piece used, and answer it before they have to ask: How long was the item used for? Any repairs, re-laces, or replaced parts? Reason for selling (upgrading, outgrew it, switched brands)? Smell/cleaning — has it been cleaned/deodorized? Answering these up front dramatically cuts down back-and-forth messaging, which is often the actual reason a sale stalls out and the buyer moves on to another listing.
- Price Signals Matter in the Listing Itself Even before they check what similar gear costs, buyers judge a price by what's in the listing. A specific, detailed listing justifies a fair price; a one-line vague listing makes buyers assume you don't know what you have, and invites lowball offers. - List It Where Goalies Are Actually Looking A great listing buried in a general sports marketplace competes with hundreds of unrelated items for attention. Listing on a goalie-specific marketplace like PadSave puts your gear in front of buyers who are already filtering specifically for your brand, size, and category — not scrolling past it in a general "sports equipment" feed. With our requirement like minimum 3-photos to best showcase your item quality, brand and category specific filtering, where our viewers don’t shut the computer off when they see a goalie helmet and a baseball glove when searching for “goalie skates”. With our filtering and shipping visibility options, PadSave is the ideal platform to get eyeballs on your gear and most importantly, sold.
